JOB REQUIREMENTS

1. SKILLS / ABILITIES
Public relations, knowledge of county procedures and practices, communication skills, detail oriented. Knowledge of laws applicable to law enforcement records. Ability to work with limited supervision. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters.

2. MINIMUM EDUCATION
High school graduate or GED.

3. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
Experience in handling office paperwork, filing and documentation.

4. TYPE OF EXPERIENCE
General office skills, accounting skills, management skills, familiar with legal documents, organized.

5. SPECIALIZED REQUIREMENTS
Valid Texas driver’s license.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Receives, reviews, catalogs, labels, tags, marks, packages, documents, and stores submitted property and evidence.
2. Safeguards the integrity of chain of custody on all submitted property and evidence.
3. Ensures hazardous material evidence is appropriately handled, identified, contained, stored, transported, tested and disposed of legally. Evaluates the worth of adjudicated evidence and unclaimed property in preparation for legal disposal and disbursement.
4. Audits items against information available in the agency’s departmental computer system for stolen, wanted or owner information.
5. Testifies in court as required by subpoena.
6. Stays up to date on state and local laws involving evidence and property handling and recommend appropriate changes.
7. Release of evidence to authorized personnel or persons.
8. Conducts an inventory of evidence and property rooms to ensure the safeguarding of all items stored within.
9. Maintains the evidence and property storage areas.
10. Transport evidence and property to the appropriate crime laboratories as required.
11. Assist the Evidence Coordinator.



MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Provide administrative and clerical support to all personnel involving evidence and property.
2. Type and prepare a wide variety of documents, correspondence and memorandums routine to matters concerning departmental procedures and practices.
3. Perform other assignments as directed by the Sheriff, Chief Deputy or the Evidence Coordinator.
