Juvenile Looters Arrested.

While most Liberty County citizens were struggling to save their lives and property during the recent severe flooding in the county, thieves were struggling to steal what few possession many of the displaced people still had left. At about 3:30pm on Saturday evening, Liberty County Sheriff’s Detective Travis Pierce stopped a vehicle on CR 3402 for a traffic violation. Assisted by Deputies Bryan Sorola and Ivan Gonzalez a Consent to Search was obtained from the 18 year old driver, Seth Gangler and his car was searched.  Found in the console of the vehicle was 18.3 grams of marijuana. The 15 year old juvenile passenger who was wearing a back pack was very uncooperative and told Det. Pierce that he would not permit his back pack to be searched and that the deputies would have to call a dog to search his pack. When Det. Pierce assured the juvenile that a dog was in route the surprised young man said, “… you REALLY have a dog ?...”  The juvenile reconsidered his objection and then changed his mind and gave the deputies permission to search his back pack. The pack back was found to contain several watches, I-pads as well as a Taser 3.

The juvenile then quickly admitted that he and another 15 year old juvenile had been stealing such property from locations that had been vacated by flood victims. The name of the second juvenile was given to the deputies and warrants will be issued for both juveniles who are from the Cleveland area. Seth Gangler, of the Spring Texas area, who claimed no knowledge of the “looting” but only was giving the juvenile a ride was evidently not involved in the theft cases and was only charged with Possession of Marijuana and placed in the Liberty County jail.
